Changpeng Zhao

Changpeng Zhao, often referred to as CZ, was born in China in 1977 and immigrated to Canada as a child. He earned a degree in computer science from McGill University and spent his early professional years working on trading software for the Tokyo Stock Exchange and Bloomberg Tradebook. This background in financial infrastructure provided him with a deep understanding of market mechanics and high-frequency trading systems, which later proved essential to his work in the cryptocurrency space.

In 2017, Zhao founded Binance, a cryptocurrency exchange platform, during the initial explosion of interest in digital assets. He launched the company following an initial coin offering that raised approximately 15 million dollars. Binance quickly gained traction due to its wide variety of supported coins and low transaction fees, positioning itself as a central hub for retail and institutional traders globally. The rapid adoption of his platform led to Binance becoming the largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume.
