Cathie Wood

Cathie Wood is an American investor and the founder, CEO, and CIO of ARK Investment Management, an investment firm focused on disruptive innovation. Born in Los Angeles in 1955, Wood was raised by Irish immigrant parents. She attended the University of Southern California, where she graduated summa cum laude in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science in finance and economics. Her early interest in economics was significantly influenced by her mentor, economist Arthur Laffer.

Wood spent over a decade at Jennison Associates, where she served as a managing director, portfolio manager, and analyst. She later moved to AllianceBernstein, serving as chief investment officer of global thematic strategies for twelve years. During her tenure there, she developed the investment philosophy that would eventually form the basis for her own firm, emphasizing the importance of long-term growth through disruptive technological advancements in areas like artificial intelligence, robotics, and blockchain.

In 2014, Wood founded ARK Invest, a firm designed to provide retail and institutional investors access to actively managed thematic exchange-traded funds.
